Stay Cool

Stay cool

Rather strange for Europeans, that the sun is at noon in the north. But if one pays no extra on it, you realize it does not. Have now completed the first week in Melbourne behind me. "Unfortunately," was the most work. The days went by until the next morning at 9 in the morning to 1 or 2, and this is as challenging as in Berlin. On Saturday and Sunday I had then but a little time to myself to look at the city.

Apartment and office are located in the "Central Business District", so to speak, in the center. A very interesting area in the old buildings stand next to skyscrapers.

The city is quite European. In addition to the architecture of older buildings is the order on the streets and that, in contrast to the Asian islands to the north, the traffic is not determined by Toyotas and Nissans but of VWs, BMWs and Mercedes. Care has to stop just because all the driving on the wrong side. The city has an excellent public transport system. There is a train that links the similar system in the city suburbs and a very good bus and tram system. It turns out that one cares about his customers and especially to tourists. The opposition to the Berlin public transport is quite clear. There is a free tourist bus service to all interesting places in the city and also a free tram line ring for tourists to the city center surrounded. We can all get in and out, there are explanations of the sights and the stations. But not, as in Berlin, from the band. In each of these buses and trains is staff that explains everything and you can also ask for advice. This also works in the normal buses and trains. Usually is announced at each station, as they say, what connections there are from there, what interesting buildings are accessible from there, what is the next station. Before crossing is even fashionable to drive in the direction the train will continue. There is next to the tourist trains and a moving tram restaurant (see photo).

St. Kilda by the Eureka Tower, Albert Park

On Saturday I got a little bit so I looked at the city center. It was beautiful weather. Bright blue, cloudless sky. Sudden everyone looked up. Since a plane painted "STAY COOL" in the blue (see photo above). On Sunday I was at first in a southern suburb of Melbourne. St. Kilda, which lies at the Hobsons Bay. There is a sandy beach, a marina and the Albert Park, where in two weeks is the Grand Prix. Hopefully I'm still here. A short walk along the beach. To bathe me the water was too cold. At 21 degrees'm not used to. In addition, I had too many jellyfish in the water. There is not the dangerous jellyfish, but it does not necessarily have to be. A walk along the waterfront and in the streets of St. Kilda. The urban landscape is dramatically different from the city center. It recalls his two-storey flat-roofed houses and the road management rather square in small American towns. Later, back in the city. There I got me the Sunday Art Market at Yarra looked near the art museum. Then a trip to the tallest building in the southern hemisphere, the Eureka Tower. There is a viewing platform at the 88 floor. With clear blue skies, this sensational views over the city and the surrounding area. There is an area located outside of the glass, so you can feel the wind at this altitude and there is the so-called "edge". A glass box extends over the building of the wall. Glass roof, glass walls and a glass floor. It has a clear view into the depth of 300 meters. Certainly not for everyone, but in some ways an impressive experience. Unfortunately, man can not take a photo of it. In the photo is of Albert Park to see the lake in the center around which the F1 race track leads.

Finally, a few interesting links: Eureka Tower: German English (you can look at the English side of quiet time, even if you do not understand the language.), St. Kilda
